Birth

Everything about little Jonathan is a surprise! First his conception, and now his arrival!
Jonathan was due on January 18, 2008. He was too anxious to enter the world and just could not wait!
On December 23, 2007; before retiring to bed for the evening, I decided to sleep atop a towel "just in case". WELL "just in case" was right! At approximately 12:10 pm my water broke! I jumped up screaming "OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD! MATT! MY WATER JUST BROKE!"
Matt did not believe me, he thought I was playing a joke on him, (or peed the bed)... I assured him, it wasn't urine and I wasn't kidding.
I proceeded downstairs to shower (dripping all the way). I figured I had better take my last shower in comfort and quiet.
As I exited the shower, I decided to call my mother. When I told her my water broke, she ran over. She told me to call the doctor. I complied. Since my doctor was on vacation, I spoke with my midwife. She instructed me it probably was a small tear, and I should rest up and come into the office on Wednesday (after the holiday) or call her in the morning if I were to begin any contractions.
I attempted to follow her instructions and headed up to bed immediately. I climbed into bed for a few hours of comfortable, yet restless and anxious sleep.
At 4 am the contractions began... I proceeded to call the midwife again. She again instructed me to try to rest and if the contraction began to be consistently ten-twenty minutes apart to call her again, otherwise I was to wait until the office opened at 7:30 am and call then to hear for some important test results (I had tests done on the Friday previous).
At 7 am, I couldn't tolerate the contractions anymore and KNEW I had to go to the hospital. The contractions were just about eight minutes apart and I was trying so hard to concentrate that I was unable to call the midwife again. Thankfully, Matt did. I remember him saying, "I think this is it. We are going to head to the hospital now."
With that we were on out way. The car was packed and we got in. That was the longest 45 minutes of my life!
We arrived at the hospital and at 8:30, I was in an admitting room where my blood pressure and all was being checked. The nurse repeatedly asked me to inform her when each contraction was to begin and end, but there was no definitive beginning or ending.
As soon as Pam arrived I was wheeled into the delivery room, dilated and ready to go (minus the epidural which I was to late for).
At 9:14, after just about 30 minutes and three pushes, Jonathan David was born.
He was beautiful! 5 lbs and 14 oz, 19 inches long and a whooping 3 and 1/2 weeks early!
